We are students in Philosophy 101: "Practical Reasoning" taught by Prof. John McClellan at Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, TN. We've been learning about rhetorical devices and logical fallacies and were assigned a project to find them in persuasive materials from the presidential race. This site highlights some of our findings from that project.
Our course text, which we used to learn this material, is "Critical Thinking" by Brooke Noel Moore and Richard Parker. You can learn more about it here.
We have made a concerted effort to remain unbiased and neutral in our identification and reporting of these items, as it is not our intention to use this site to promote either presidential candidate above the other. We only want to help folks learn to cut through the rhetorical "fluff" of these political campaigns so that they can better focus on evaluating the reasons for/against supporting each candidate on pertinent political issues. That said, any political views or biases (either explicit or implicit) that you think yourself to have discovered here are not necessarily shared by all students in the class, Prof. McClellan, or Carson-Newman College.
We invite you to learn more about our fantastic college at www.cn.edu
